Join us for the 8th Annual Tucson Buddy Walk on Sunday, October 25, 2009 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the DeMeester Outdoor Performance Center in Reid Park - a fund and awareness raising event for the Down Syndrome community of Southern Arizona.
Our goal this year is to invite our entire community to take part in this celebration of diverse abilities, whether as a family, a sponsor, an exhibitor, an entertainer, an organizer,a service provider, a volunteer or all of the above! By clicking on the "Get Started" button below you can pre-register online and also set up your own pedge raising webpage. It's a great way to communicate with family and friends - near and far flung.
Pre-register by October 1, 2009 to receive a free Buddy Walk t-shirt. For those registering after October 1, 2009 a limited supply of BW t-shirts will be available for purchase ($5) at the event.
The Tucson Buddy Walk raises funds for the Southern Arizona Network for Down Syndrome (SANDS www.sandsaz.org), a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization created to improve and enrich the lives of those with Down syndrome. SANDS uses the funds raised here in three areas: 1) providing grants both to local Down syndrome support groups for operational expenses, projects and activites for the benefit of individuals with Down syndrome and their families, and to individuals with Down syndrome to attend conferences, therapies and programs; 2) introducing and implementing programs of benefit to the Down syndrome community; and 3) hosting events like Buddy Walk which promote inclusion, awareness and funding sources. A small portion of the funds goes back to the National Down Syndrome Society www.ndss.org., which created Buddy Walk, to further the development of programs, projects, legislation and research at the national level.
Thank you all for your support and friendship! We hope to welcome many of you to Tucson Buddy Walk this October 25th, and to those who are supporting from afar, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for reaching across the miles to make this happen.
