Dear Friends:
Today, twenty five years after AIDS first began devastating our country, most persons in the United States have access to health care and drugs and most are able to live fairly active and vital lives in spite of the disease.
Unfortunately, over 42 million people are living with HIV/AIDS worldwide and most have no access to medical care. The majority will die having never been treated for the disease. As many of you can remember, from the early days here in the U.S., it will be a painful and debilitating death.
There are currently 14 million AIDS orphans and 380,000 in Thailand alone (more than five times that of any other nation in Southeast Asia.) Most of the orphans are in facilities where there is only one caregiver for every hundred children.
The Heart Touch Project has been invited to provide compassionate touch to AIDS orphans in three different facilities in Thailand and also teach their caregivers how to provide massage.
In response to this a group of Heart Touch Volunteers will be traveling to Thailand in November where we hope to provide some comfort to these children who are alone, isolated and untouched in the final days of their lives.
Until there is a cure or a way for our brothers and sisters around the world to get the drugs they deserve- Heart Touch will reach out with touch in hope that we can help to alleviate a small amount of the suffering that these children will have to endure. Thank you for your support in making this journey possible.
With Love And Gratitude,
Shawnee Isaac Smith Founder
