Description:
The Cancer Research Foundation is a tax-exempt, public charity created exclusively to raise funds to further and support cancer research.
Mission:
Currently, more than 200 different types of cancer affect more than 1.3 million people a year. It seems obvious that more money should be dedicated to research and to finding a cure; but, unfortunately, this is not happening! Stretched thin between economic struggles and natural disasters, the federal government has been forced to dramatically curtail its current medical research funding (with cancer research taking the largest cut among all areas of the National Institutes of Health); in addition, the philanthropy community, although extremely generous, often overlooks the colder face of research in favor of easing the heart wrenching pain of a victim. The Cancer Research Foundation was established for the sole purpose of drawing attention to the need for cancer research and for raising funds for top research facilities across the nation.

Our personal message:
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page! I know it's been quite some time since I've seen or talked to some of you, so I hope this finds you well!
As many of you know, I have been thinking about running the L.A. Marathon for a while now. After many excuses of "maybe next year", I finally decided to do it while my body still allows me to! I have been training with some good friends, and it has been both challenging and fun. Every time we accomplish a longer distance, we surprise ourselves. And it is amazing to see how God gives us the ability to continually endure more and more. I still can't believe that not so long ago, I could barely finish 1 mile!
And so, these last few weeks I started to ask myself what do I want to accomplish with running 26.2 miles? I have to admit I've always admired those cool medals everyone gets at the finish line, and have always wanted to put one around my neck :) But ultimately, I didn't want to run WITHOUT a reason. So I started to research into ways I could fundraise, and came upon the Cancer Research Foundation Inc.
So many of us have been affected by cancer in some way, whether it has affected our family, friends, co-workers, neighbors. Just in the last few years, in my own life, cancer has touched or taken the lives of my loved ones, friends, and family of friends. It is everywhere. Fundraising efforts to find a cure would be a great way to honor their memory, as well as give hope to those who suffer and will suffer from this disease.
I realize I am starting to fundraise so late, with the marathon only 1 month away, but better late than not. And so i now run WITH good reason. And you too can support the cause. Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts.
Thank you for taking time to check out my site!! Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
Also, if you would like to come support on the day of the race, it is on Sunday, March 2, 2008. I'd love to see you!!
With much love,
Sheila :)
