Silent Voices’ History
Silent Voices was "birthed" in June of 1984, as a ministry of Horizon Christian Fellowship. We were under the leadership/direction of Horizon until January of 1991, when we became independent and moved our offices to Chula Vista. We chose Chula Vista because the majority of our calls had always been from the South County - when it was time to relocate, it wasn’t hard to know where we should be!
Services
Our services include: free pregnancy tests, pregnancy/abortion education, pregnancy support, natural family planning instruction, and post abortion counseling/support.
Bridges to Motherhood
We have a support program for our pregnant moms called "Bridges to Motherhood." We started this outreach in 1999, and have seen many of our young moms become mature adults, ready to face the responsibilities of being a parent.
International
Silent Voices has had many opportunities to travel internationally, and has been instrumental in starting ministries in Israel, Romania, Russia, the Philippines, India and Zambia. We currently have three offices in Russia - Pushkin (just outside of St Petersburg), Volgograd, and Kolchugino. We also have a thriving center in Kitwe, Zambia. We provide these centers with financial support, and supply them with pregnancy tests and other humanitarian relief.
Post Abortion Support
Since 1973, when abortion was legalized "on demand" in the United States, there have been over 50 million abortions. We know that the women - and men - who have participated in this choice can suffer greatly - and for years. Seeing the need, Silent Voices started providing post abortion support groups in1987. We hold groups over a weekend five times each year. We are also actively promoting our program across the country, and internationally, as opportunities present themselves. In 2010 we led our first group for men, and now have men who are healed - and trained to help other men find peace with God.
Natural Family Planning
Over the years, our perspective on birth control has moved from one of full acceptance, to one of questioning the health (physical, psychological, spiritual, marital and familial), safety and mechanisms of the various methods available. Since 1984 (when Silent Voices was "birthed"), countless new forms of birth control have become available - we are a culture that is consumed with contraception. We began to see and understand the connection between abortion and birth control, and realized that if we really believe that life begins at the moment of fertilization, we have to be consistent with that belief. Many birth control drugs/devices can act as an early abortion - without the woman ever knowing that she was pregnant. We believe that women have the right to know that - and they also have the right to know there's a healthier alternative - Natural Family Planning. The Director (Sharon Pearce) has become a Certified NFP Instructor through the Billings Ovulation Method , and is one of only a handful of Evangelical Christian instructors in the nation.
