The Suicide Prevention Action Network (SPAN USA) is a national non-profit organization that works to increase awareness regarding the toll of suicide in our nation and to develop political will to ensure that our government effectively addresses the problem of suicide. SPAN USA is comprised of suicide prevention advocates that range from individuals who have lost a loved on to suicide to professionals serving families and communities in need. The organization was founded by survivors - those who have lost a loved one to suicide - as a means for survivors to transform their grief into action and prevent future tragedies.
Despite the fact that suicide deaths outnumber homicide deaths and deaths related to HIV/AIDS, suicide continues to be an unmentionable subject and survivors are often forced to face their loss in a haze of stigma and judgment. SPAN USA is a unique organization, not only because it is driven primarily by survivors, but because it works closely with the government and other non-profits to address the problem of suicide.
It is our hope that our advocates will use their personal giving pages to share their stories and will view them as another means of transforming their grief into action.
