For every $290 that is contributed, one athlete is able to participate in Special Olympics for an entire year. Special Olympics Indiana provides over 800 competitions a year, with training for those events occurring every day. Your support makes a difference in the lives of athletes like:
- Katie, an athlete from Marion County and Special Olympics athlete of the year in 2008, has competed for 28 years in a variety of events including track and field, alpine skiing, speed skating, figure skating and cycling. She has participated in nine Special Olympics World games and has worked with the Law Enforcement Torch Run for many years, to run the Flame of Hope from Indianapolis to Terre Haute to commemorate our Summer Games.
- Steven, Special Olympics Warren-Fountain County athlete, is a member of the Varsity Club. Through his training in public speaking through the Athlete Leadership Programs, he was selected to serve as the co-emcee for the 2008 Summer Games. He also competes in bowling, track and field, swimming and basketball. He enjoys being a part of Special Olympics fundraising events, developing web sites and working with computers.
- Kristen, Special Olympics athlete from Cass County, has been involved with Special Olympics since 2000. She participates in bowling, basketball and cheerleading. She has also been involved in swimming and track. Her involvement with the Cass County program inspired dozens of her high school classmates to become Special Olympics volunteers. Kristen and her boyfriend, Tommy, another Special Olympics athlete, were named Prom Queen & King in 2008.
