Hello! Welcome to the Firstgiving site for the Stanford chapter of GRID Alternatives, StanfordGRID!
StanfordGRID is the first campus chapter of GRID Alternatives, a nonprofit organization providing solar installation and energy efficiency services to low-income homeowners using volunteers and job trainees around the Bay Area and Los Angeles. StanfordGRID is currently fundraising to install a solar electric system in East Palo Alto in early 2009.
Last spring, Stanford GRID successfully installed a solar system on the roof of Onedia Branch, an elderly woman who provides food, shelter, clothing and assistance to those in need in her community. She runs the East Palo Alto Community Service Center out of her modest home and tirelessly serves the homeless and needy in East Palo Alto. With her new solar system, she saves hundreds of dollars per year on electricity costs. Her solar system is a beacon of hope for the community, showing that clean energy can someday be available to everyone.
Stanford GRID is eager to do another solar installation project in East Palo Alto. As a group of undergraduate and graduate students excited about giving back to the local community by bringing renewable energy to low-income residents, we aim to fundraise $5000 to install the solar electric system in East Palo Alto in early 2009. The funds raised will go towards purchasing the solar system equipment and related installation costs.
