My personal message:
Thank you for visiting our Walk for Water Fund raising Page.

About the Water Walk:
The water walk was designed to create awareness regarding the need for clean water in Third World Countries like Uganda and to raise funds for clean water wells, which cost about $18,000 - $23,000 per well. After more than 17 years, 90 - 95 percent of these wells are still providing clean water so the money is well spent!
Did you know:

*
Over one billion people do not have access to clean water
* Two and a half billion do not have access to sanitation facilities

*
According to the World Health Organization, the child mortality rate can be reduced by 65 % through clean water and sanitation programs.

* Every 15 seconds a child dies from preventable water related diseases. PREVENTABLE

*
Just a tablespoon of clean water to clean their eyes can help prevent blindness caused by river disease.  This is something they don’t have daily access to.

The St David The King Youth Group decided to help and here’s what they did:
On Sunday June 8th at
2 pm, the parish youth and adult volunteers gathered at the fountain in front of the church to “harvest” water from the fountain.  From there, they carried it to a creek off of Penn Lyle Road and walked back to the Church
in 98 degree heat!  The total distance was about a mile.  The youth did this to symbolize the walk Ugandans must make in order to gain access to water wells. For them, it’s usually about a 2 mile trip while lugging a 5 gallon can containing about 40 pounds of unclean water back to their village.

Why World Vision:
We chose to work with World Vision because of their experience and dedication.  They have been helping others for over 50 years and
delivered over $2 Billion to the poorest of the poor last year.   They focus on several major areas but realize that no other humanitarian intervention produces a more dramatic effect on life than access to clean water and sanitation.

The youth of St David The King are asking you to contribute to this cause and help provide clean water to our 30,000 neighbors in Lweego, Uganda.  Please support them by donating through this page or by sending a check to: "St David The King" & write "Water Walk" in the memo or "World Vision - St Davids Water Walk" and mail it to:
