One in four children lives in a home affected by alcoholism or alcohol abuse, and countless others are impacted by parental drug use. The toll addiction takes on these children can be substantial. Their lives are often confusing and frightening and they deserve clarity and help. Research shows that many children with alcohol- or drug-dependent parents can benefit tremendously from adult efforts to help and encourage them.
Children need to hear messages like: “It’s not your fault,” “You are not alone,” and “There is help.”
NACoA’s goals include raising awareness, providing leadership in public policy, informing and educating academic and community service organizations, and most importantly, advocating for accessible programs and services for children of alcoholics. NACoA provides direct service organizations and professionals who work with children, including adult children of alcoholics, the tools they need to provide early intervention, reaching and bringing hope and healing to millions of hurting children.
