Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Let me tell you a bit about why I'm doing this ride.

Special Olympics New York provides a program of skill development, training, and competition for children and adults with mental retardation and other intellectual disabilities. As they prepare for and compete for medals at regional, state, national, or international games, these special athletes gain self-esteem and social skills that help them in educational, vocational, residential and community settings.

Special Olympics New York delivers these and other services year round at no cost to the athletes or their families. Funds raised through Pedal for Medals will help to offset costs and expand programs and services throughout the Central Region of New York State. So that's a good thing.

The other reasons I'm doing this ride are that: it's a great motivator for me to get and stay in shape; I love to ride; I'll be 60 in August, and it's a gift to myself; a 300 mile ride in 4 days is a great way to commemorate this moment in my life; and, this ride has a reputation for being a wonderful experience.
