Welcome to the Success for Kids New York fundraising platform!
Ride for Success is an exciting cycling tour designed to highlight the educational programs of SFK-Success for Kids. On Sunday, June 5, 2011, you will depart PS 145 on the Upper West Side one of SFK¹s key program sites for a 40-mile journey through the City. Along the way, you will enjoy scenery that ranges from historic New York architecture to spectacular waterfront views. The route will be fully supported by a volunteer crew who will mark the route, hand out refreshments and good cheer at rest stops, offer sweep services to riders who need a lift, and more. Even more inspiring, many of SFK¹s students will be on hand at various points along the route to cheer you on!
Ride for Success supports the unique emotional intelligence programs that have been developed by SFK-Success for Kids. These unique programs, nationally recognized by the Rand Corporation and others, offer a new beginning to at-risk youth in New York City schools to take a hard look at themselves and their interactions with others, steering them into more constructive relationships and more productive lives.
Success for Kids
The mission of SFK-Success For Kids is to build life skills that promote social and emotional development in every child. We teach children be more responsible by making decisions that reflect a consciousness of others and the world in which they are a part. We teach children the tools to empower them to meet life's challenges, thereby helping them reach their full potential. SFK gives children an awareness of themselves, of others, and of the interconnectedness of all things so that they become caring, successful, and effective individual.
A recent study by The RAND Corporation found that SFK had positive effects on nearly every domain, tested performing better then any other program looking to achieve similar results and the only program proven to increase resilience. The findings showed positive behaviors, such as adaptability, communication, leadership, social skills and study skills, as well as a reduction in negative behaviors such as anxiety, withdrawal and conduct problems. “Overall, a major strength of the program appears to be its careful attention to uniformity of program delivery — in particular, its standardized curriculum, use of experienced teachers, and formal teacher-training program.
Thanks to the generosity of our friends and supporters SFK has grown into a global organization reaching over 20,000 children and adolescents a year in seven countries. In New York City public schools, SFK has been integrated into the 2009-2010-school curriculum consisting of weekly 50-minute classes with more than 1,500 students enrolled.
