About Me:
My name is Jamie Francis. I was diagnosed with Lupus in 2002 at 22 years old. Though I have remianed relatively stable on medication, I was once hospitalized for Lupus in 2006, not long before joining the LFA Arizona Chapter. In just a few short weeks with no warning, I developed a body rash, completely lost all of my hair, dropped 20lbs and had extreme fatigue of unknown origin ... I was of course hospitalized soon after. It was a traumatizing and frightening experience ... and all related to the strange disease of Lupus.
Being someone who has and has experienced some of the many perils of Lupus, the is a cause near and dear to my heart. So, since discovering the LFA in 2006 I do my best to raise awareness, educate the public and of course, fundraise and plan for LFA events every year so that we may support the world in finding a cure for this terrible disease.
As a dear friend of mine, I am hoping you can help me support the LFA Arizona Chapter in our 2008 fundraising activities! Donate NOW! It's fast and easy!

After my hospitalization in 2006, I knew it was time to make a difference. If I could live through the stress and humiliation of losing my hair, I knew I could do more in my life than just work and live. In 2007, I signed up with the LFA Arizona Chapter determined to help it grow. I
I served as a Board Member for the LFA Arizona Chapter; Committee Member & Fundraiser for the 2007 2nd Annual Lupus Walk and the 1st Annual “Lupuspalooza.” musical event. Hand in hand with the loving members of the Lupus Foundation of America Arizona Chapter, we raised enough money to do some really life changing things. We were able to pay for a very ill member to spend her last days with her family out of state, the chapter prepared a REAL budget for the 2008 fundraising year and our chapter was able hire a Chapter President! What a feeling ... we made a real difference! Donate NOW!
In addition, I was honored to be chosen to represent the Lupus Foundation of America in
Washington D.C. during Advocacy Week in February 2006. We knocked on doors at the White House, urging Senators and State Representatives to give more money to our cause. We listened to Ted Kennedy speak about Lupus and sat in awe as world-renowned doctors informed us that there IS a cure for Lupus in the wings of ongoing medical research.
In fact, here is the press release! :)
DoD’s Congressionally Directed, Peer-Reviewed Medical Research Program Grants for 2007 Announced
The Department of Defense’s Congressionally Directed (DoD) Peer Reviewed Medical Research Program (PRMRP) has announced its 2007 grant awards.
The LFA successfully advocated in 2006 for the inclusion of lupus as one of the diseases eligible for funding, with a special emphasis on lupus biomarkers. This was first time that lupus was included in the PRMRP program, which resulted in grants of $2.5 million in new funding for research on lupus biomarkers.
The PRMRP program was established in 1999 and continues to fulfill Congressional intent by funding research of clear scientific merit with direct relevance to the health of the warfighter, the military family, and the American public. Congress appropriated $50 million for the program in FY 2006. PRMRP Congressional appropriations, which had totaled $294.5M through fiscal year 2005 (FY05) have provided funding for 198 projects in more than 60 topic areas.
So nowk, if my story has made even a freckle of an impression on your heart, I urge you to please donate! You are the link, you are the answer and your donations are the small tokens of gratitude that make a world of difference in the lives of people living with Lupus.
