our experience at seattle children's began in december of 2006 when max was diagnosed with biliary atresia. this is a rare condition in newborn infants in which the common bile duct between the liver and small intestine is blocked or absent. the only effective treatment is a liver transplant. max was listed in january of 2007 and received his gift of life a short three months later on april 4. life post transplant involves a lot of balancing of medications, lab draws, liver biopsies, ct scans, ultra sounds, and many, many hospitalizations. in april of 2008 max was diagnosed with pneumocystis pneumonia. this was the most trying time of our time spent at seattle children's. with many weeks spent in the pediatric intensive care unit on a ventilator, i found myself begging god to allow me to take max home with me. fortunately, in time -- max did make it home!
we have been blessed with an incredible team at seattle childrens....the absolute sense of security i feel walking through those doors is just like the feeling of going into our own home. i feel so blessed to have such an amazing facility in seattle and to be apart of such a phenomenal medical center. i am and always will be truly grateful to seattle children's for all they have done for max.
max has received an incredible amount of care at the hospital. it was such a relief knowing that we had qualified for the uncompensated care program from seattle children's. everything above and beyond what our insurance didnt cover was automatically taken care of. the uncompensated care program available to families at seattle children's lifts a huge amount of weight off of what already is a very trying time. in 2008, children's provided more than $85 million to families in need. the run for children's guild needs your help to help raise $100,000.
help 'team max' donate funds to add to the uncompensated care program --- donate, walk, run, wear green, and have fun!!! donate life.
