Our personal message:

Two long years ago, I set out on a personal journey to raise money for the American Diabetes Association Research Foundation. To date, with the cooperation of family and friends in Team Sherpa and Team Sherpa Ultra-Running, we have raised over $15,000 for the ADA Research Foundation! It is our sincere hope that every dollar we raise will someday help find a cure for this dibilitating disease.

Why The ADA Research Foundation? My fiance Sarah Chretien is a Type 1 diabetic.  In type 1 diabetes, the body does not produce insulin. Insulin is a hormone that is needed to convert sugar (glucose), starches and other food into energy needed for daily life. Sarah has struggled with diabetes every day of her life since being diagnosed at the young age of seven. Now at the age of 24, she is constantly hooked up to an insulin pump and monitors her blood sugar levels with a prick of her fingers. This on going process is not only discouraging but painful and depressing.

I have made it a mission of mine to contribute a major portion of my life towards funding a cure for Sarah and this unfortunate disease. Through our efforts with the DVD sales of "48: A White Mountain Documentary Film," our 1st and 2nd Annual Team Sherpa Summit Cup Indoor Soccer Tournaments, a hike-a-thon and numerous donations from individuals, we have raised over $15,000 for our cause.

Now, we look to increase our total through my running of the 2007 Vermont 100 Mile Endurance Run. It is my goal to run all 100 miles in under 24 Hours. 100 Miles in 1 Day. It is my hope, that you will find it within your heart to support our cause and donate here to the ADA Research Foundation. Together, we can help find a cure and make a difference in millions of lives.

One hundred percent (100%) of every dollar contributed to the Research Foundation helps supports more than 450 awards at over 150 research institutions across the country, all working toward a day without diabetes. All non-research costs associated with the Research Program are paid through the Association's general fund.

Remember; Every 21 seconds, someone is diagnosed with diabetes.... Every 21 seconds, I have a new reason to run.

In the 24 Hours I hope it takes me to run 100 Miles, 4,114 people will be newly diagnosed with diabetes. THIS IS FOR THEM!

For those who aren't comfortable donating online, please make your check payable to ADA Research Fund and mail it to the following address.

"Sherpa" John Lacroix - Age: 25

Started running in August 2004 in an attempt to change my life, to discover inner peace and to test my body to it's absolute limits. When I first started running I couldn't run a mile without walking. This journey has been all about over coming obstacles and proving to myself and others than with inner strength I can accomplish anything. I ran my first Marathon in May of 2005, my first 50K (Ultra) in July of 2005, my first 50 Miler in September 2006 and my first 100 Miler in April 2007.
