Technology for Autism Now (TAN) The Mission: Providing Practical Support for the Autism Community Founded by Marie Duggan – a mother of a child severely affected with autism, and now internationally recognized advocate for all children on the autism spectrum – Technology for Autism Now is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization seeks to increase the availability, quality and use of assistive technology communications solutions for the autism community. TAN is on a mission to help children with autism have a voice and to understand the world they live in so that they can be active participants in their communities and lead into functional young adults and beyond. As Marie Duggan noted after recounting the struggles of advocating for her own child, “The most profound words ever spoken to me by a professional were, ‘Your son has the goods, but we need to provide him with the tools.’ If we keep that in mind. I know we can move mountains for these kids.” To that end, TAN aims to address the many unmet service needs that children face today with a goal of helping challenged children lead more functional lives in their homes, schools and communities. Equally important, TAN’s mission includes providing critical support & tools for parents, teachers and caregivers who are often poorly equipped to deal with the sometimes debilitating demands that come with raising a child with autism.
