Our personal message:

I’m dedicating my effort to the loving memory of my stepdad whose love for his family and passion for life continue to inspire me everyday. My stepdad was diagnosed with esophageal cancer which then metastasized to his liver and I increasingly admire how he confronted adversity with such courage and strength. I’m doing my first marathon in recognition of him along with my family, friends and everyone else who’s been affected by cancer and who has demonstrated such strength and resolve towards such a challenge. 

His attitude towards adversity was exceptional and he remained unequivocally dedicated to his family and friends throughout his life and particularly during his battle with cancer. His compassion was unwavering and he took genuine interest in helping people better themselves with an attitude that viewed problems more like possibilities and the ability to recognize opportunity in adversity. In that regard, it is my exposure to the adversity of cancer that has encouraged me to support opportunities to change things for the better for those who fight cancer. 
 
My family and close friends that have fought cancer have also encouraged many others surrounding them as they never shied away from adversity and their story will hopefully continue as a sign of strength and optimism to others who are fighting cancer.
 
It is with much excitement that I take on this marathon and I believe it is one way to support those that are diagnosed with cancer - I hope you would agree. Any support raised through this effort will go towards cancer fighters, survivors and caregivers, to give them strength and courage to win the battle.
