Fairways and Dreams 2012

Fairways and Dreams 2012

Jeff Hauswirth, Rainbow Connection Board Member and the Fairways and Dreams Committee are hosting  the 2nd annual “Fairways and Dreams” golf benefit on September 18, 2012 at Scalawags Golf Club in Chesterfield, MI. The 12-hour, 100-hole golf marathon event begins at 7 a.m. and benefits The Rainbow Connection, a charity that makes dreams come true for Michigan children stricken with life-threatening illnesses. Players who participate in “Fairways and Dreams” must meet certain eligibility requirements. They must be physically able to play a minimum of 100 holes (maximum of 144 holes) in 12 hours, have an average handicap in the mid-teens or better, have their own “caddy” (driver) and raise a minimum of $2,000.

This all day effort will provide support for wish children of The Rainbow Connection who seek to further their academic dreams through scholarship opportunities. In 2010, 15 golfers raised more than $47,000 for The Rainbow Connection’s education endowment fund, with golfers playing over 1,500 cumulative holes. Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson, founder of The Rainbow Connection, will be on hand to welcome guests and personally thank the golfers and volunteers at the conclusion of the event.

Since 2005, The Rainbow Connection has granted 42 scholarships to deserving recipients. Nine scholarships were awarded for the 2010/2011 school year and thirteen for the 2011/2012 school year.

The Rainbow Connection is excited for the abundance of opportunities that will be afforded to their wish children as a result of the gracious support for this event. They are especially grateful to Scalawags Golf Club for donating the course for the day, which ensures the financial success of the event.

The Rainbow Connection is a charity dedicated to granting wishes to children who are fighting life-threatening illnesses. It is through the generous donations of individual contributions, special events, corporate donations and sponsorships, foundation grants, workplace giving programs and planned gifts that The Rainbow Connection has granted over 2000 wishes to Michigan children since 1985.
