Thomas A. Deitemeyer (a.k.a. Tom D. and Grandad D.), 60, and 22-year-resident of Claremont, passed away on December 27, 2007. He was born on March 17, 1947 in Compton, CA and grew up in the community of Westmont in Pomona, graduating from Ganesha High School in 1966.
As a young man, Tom served his country in the Army for 3 years, where he was stationed in several states across the United States, as well as Korea. He retired in 2005 from the City of Claremont where he worked for more than 25 years. The City was blessed to have such a hard-working and dedicated employee and member of the community. There wasn’t much Tom D. couldn’t do and everyone knew they could turn to him when they needed to get the job done right. Tom was also the liaison and a vital asset to the local Boy Scout Troops in which he helped many Scouts earn the highest honor of Eagle Scout. He truly loved the town he lived in. Tom’s good nature and caring style meant he had many friends all of whom will miss him dearly.
Tom leaves behind the love of his life and wife of more than 40 years, Mylinda. He also leaves behind two daughters, Dana Gendry and her husband Chuck of Huntington Beach, and Tomi Walker and her husband Jeff of Garden Grove. He has five grandchildren who meant the world to him, Chaz and Jaden Gendry, Myka Avila, and Kaeli and Zane Walker. All of whom will forever miss him and cherish his love in their lives for the rest of theirs. He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Jamie and Albert Perry, his brother James Deitemeyer and wife LeAnne, and sister Patricia Kimball and husband Larry.
