Each summer, law enforcement officials from across Virginia carry the Flame of Hope on a 1,900 journey to the Special Olympics Virginia Summer Games Opening Ceremony in Richmond. This 8-day Torch Run involves more than 2,000 law enforcement officers and personnel representing more than 200 law enforcement agencies across Virginia.

In the South Central Region (Region 9) there are several “legs” of the Torch Run that make their way from the Patrick County Circuit Court to the Lynchburg City Limits. The Flame of Hope is passed among area law enforcement agencies throughout the route.
