Virginia Law Enforcement Torch Run: FINAL LEG
The Final Leg run is the culminating event of the Law Enforcement Torch Run. Runners and marked vehicles will carry the Flame of Hope from Tuckahoe Rescue Squad to the University of Richmond Robins Center to kick off Opening Ceremonies. By the completion of the Final Leg, law enforcement will have covered nearly 2,000 miles through communities all over Virginia, raising funds and awareness for the inspiring athletes of Special Olympics Virginia.
Runners and vehicles need to report by 7:30pm to the Tuckahoe Rescue Squad for staging (1101 Horsepen Rd., Richmond, VA 23229). The run is a relatively east downhill, shaded route that is slightly over 1 mile. Runners are requested to wear their 2012 Torch Run t-shirt with dark blue or black shorts. Runners will immediately enter the stadium for the lighting of the cauldron. If you can’t run down the hill but would like to enter the stadium with the Torch, please be in front of the Robins Center by 7:30pm, same dress code applies.
We are looking for Final Leg / Opening Ceremony participants in 4 categories:
1) Runners - Individuals who will run with the Flame of Hope.
2) Drivers - Individuals who will drive the law enforcement escort vehicles
3) Uniformed Escorts - Law enforcement officers who will greet athletes as they arrive at the Robins Center and then salute the Torch as it ascends to the cauldron. Officers need to report in uniform to the Robins Center Press Room at 6:30pm. Dinner will be provided by the Good Sam’s Club.
4) Color Guard - Law Enforcement representives who will present the colors for the National Anthem. (This will occur immediately before the Flame of Hope makes its entrance into the Opening Ceremonies.)
