Here is some background about Tusk and our Mission:
For over two decades Tusk, one of the UK’s leading and highly respected African conservation non-profit organizations has been initiating projects throughout Africa that give rural communities and endangered wildlife the opportunity to co-exist and flourish.
Tusk’s holistic approach to conservation is impressive – 40 sustainable projects in 17 different African countries – everything from a Chimp Orphanage in Zambia to saving the Desert Rhino in Namibia, to developing community owned ecolodges and guiding schools in Kenya.
Tusk projects educate communities, change conservation attitudes and provide sustainable economic opportunities to help poor rural Africans. Many projects are linked to eco-tourism. These initiatives not only provide employment, but also generate revenue to improve the healthcare, schooling, water supply, and security in otherwise poverty stricken and remote areas of Africa. In turn the projects benefit wildlife conservation by the dramatic reduction of poaching and the equally dramatic regeneration of the bush after years of degradation created by over-grazing and soil erosion.
Tusk USA recognises that protecting wildlife, supporting communities and promoting education are all essential ingredients for the success of long-term conservation in Africa.
