The UNC Dance Marathon:
There's one night a year when life at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill stops ... and hundreds of students take a stand FOR THE KIDS! If you're a dancer in the 2012 UNC Dance Marathon, then you'll sign up for a Firstgiving Page. This is the easiest way for friends and family to donate to help you raise $150 or more for the patients and families at N.C. Children's Hospital.
If you aren't a dancer but want to contribute to UNC-DM, you can donate here, too! Please read on to learn about our organization and what we do in the hospital.
Our efforts throughout the year:
In the simplest terms, The UNC Dance Marathon is the largest student-run nonprofit organization at UNC-Chapel Hill. UNC-DM works year-round to raise money to benefit the patients and families of N.C. Children's Hospital through grants. Our fundraising efforts culminate in a 24-hour celebration where hundreds of UNC-CH students show their support for the paitents and families by standing on their feet for the entire event. In 2011, UNC-DM raised $436,709.61, funding two ongoing grants and eight divisional grants at the hospital.
Our work at N.C. Children's Hospital:
The "For the Kids" Fund was established after the first marathon and still today provides for expenses not covered by insurance or Medicaid-expenses families might not otherwise be able to afford with their child's medical bills. By relieving families of everyday financial burdens, the fund allows them to focus on what matters: caring for their children. Through private conversations, hospital social workers allocate the funds to families as needed. As they distribute the funds, they share their stories with UNC-DM, changing names to respect patients' privacy.
More about this and other grants, as well as several stories, are featured on our website.
