2012 Gulf Coast Chapter Walk to Prevent Violence Against Women and Girls
Join the Gulf Coast Chapter Walk to Prevent Violence Against Women and Girls in Sarasota and around the World. The Walk will be held on January 28, 2011 at 948 Siesta Beach Road, Siesta Beach, Florida. It begins at 8:30 a.m., with registration at 8:15 a.m. Why are we walking? -- Violence against women and girls is a worldwide pandemic; -- up to 70% of women experience physical or sexual violence from men in their lifetime; -- among women aged 15 to 44, acts of violence cause more death and disability than cancer, malaria, traffic accidents and war combined; -- the cost of intimate partner violence in the U.S. exceeds $5.8 billion per year; -- 102 countries have no specific legal provisions against domestic violence. So please join us, either by becoming a walker or a sponsor. For more information on becoming a walker, please go to http://www.unwomen-usnc.org/gccevents. Or, use this website to sponsor one of our many walkers.
