UPDATE: 5/9/08
Hi everyone! I have chosen green because it seems that whoever runs the LBH seems to love green. Any way, I had a great half marathon experience! It was definitely my best time ever. I felt great all the way through. Last year I do remember thinking about mile 8 or 9, "WHAT WAS I THINKING????".
I want to thank all of you that have donated and encourage anyone that hasn't to please donate. I know this cancer sounds like a crazy name, but, it is real, it is bad and we need research. You never know, you may be the next one that is affected by this type of cancer.
Please help research.
UPDATE: 4/20/08
Judee just started chemotherapy on the 18th. I was down in NJ to keep her company. When I left her Saturday she looked really tired, but still showing a strong face.
As far as her cancer goes, it has ended up being 90% , actual "breast cancer" and only 10% of the Neuro endocrine cancer. I can't tell you how frustrating this has been. All of the time they were looking for the origin of the neuroendocrine cancer and she really should have started treatment a long time ago for the breast cancer. PLEASE...LET'S GET SOME RESEARCH HERE PEOPLE!!!
UPDATE:4/4/08
Judee has had some surgery on her breast to remove several tumors. She is also going for some additional surgery to see if the cancer has spread. Judee is keeping such a positive attitude, I know that she is doing her best in these circumstances. The sad thing is that we just don't have a certain direction to go that everyone may agree on. That is the thing about this type of cancer. LET'S HELP WITH RESEARCH!!!!!
Hi everyone! Some of you may know me, and others may know Judee or Gina, or maybe you hit here from the Carcinoid Cancer Foudation web site. Either way, I hope that you will find the kindness in you heart to donate. Some of you know that I have found a new passion with running. I have enjoyed running in 2 half marathons and numerous 5K's in 2007. This year,it is not about me, I have decided to "run for a reason".
My very good friend Judee, was diagnosed with Neuroendocrine Cancer recently. I had not heard of this type of cancer before, and neither had she. The charity that I have chosen as my reason for running : http://www.carcinoid.org/ has a lot of helpful information. This type of cancer is rare, and it seems like there is a lot of research that needs to be done.
Judee is a very important person in my life. She was there when I needed her, always. She was the friend that kept me occupied prior to my SURPRISE 30th birthday party, (that I swore my husband was incapable of pulling off),telling me that 30 wasn't so old, and that I would be a mom some day, and just being there at a time that I felt really LOW. Then, on the even better side, Judee is the person that I am eternally grateful to, for helping me to become a MOM. When my son was born, she was the one that called me. "Hey Val, are you and Don still interested in adoption? I just heard about a baby!" Without a doubt I said yes. (Jon was born in Long Branch also, which is another reason that this Half Marathon has such meaning to me) I know that everyone has had a friend like Judee, and I know that everyone would do whatever they could if their friend was fighting something so devistating. She is going to be fighting hard. I hope that any money that I can raise will make some sort of difference in research and treatment for this type of cancer. Please help me, help Judee and others that have been diagnosed with Neuroendocrine Cancer!
