On Friday May 18th at 5:30pm World Vision will host a Water Rally in Chicago's Federal Plaza to advocate on behalf of children and communities who do not have access to clean water.
The Need Water is one of the world's most precious natural resources. And when clean water is scarce, all aspects of life are impacted. Communities suffer from poor health, dying crops and livestock, low levels of economic productivity, and a limited ability to go to school.
Consider this:
- 2.6 billion people around the world lack access to proper sanitation
- 3,800 children die every day from diseases associated with lack of access to safe drinking water, inadequate sanitation and poor hygiene
- Contaminated water and poor sanitation are a factor in 88% of all disease in the developing world
- When a community has access to clean water, the child mortality rate is cut in half
Chicago's goal is to build at least one Traditional Well. Help us to reach that goal! A Traditional Well costs $5390 and will provide more then 600 gallons of safe water a day to more then 150 people. In countries like Malawi, a well just 60 feet deep can bring new health and life to a community.
Right now, millions of people lack the clean water they need. But there is hope. Thank you for helping change lives around the world.
