Special Olympics Wake county is pround to annouce that we are sending a group of 19 atheltes and 7 chapperones to the 2009 National Invitationals for Golf and Team Softball in Lincoln, NE on July 31-Aug 4!!!

Special Olympics is an international non-profit organization that operates on donations, grants, foundations, and sponsorships at all levels. Involvement is free for qualifing indiivduals with intellectual disabiulities.
The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics Athletes and the community.
Special Olympics Wake County helps accomplish this mission by offering training in 17 sports each year for regional and state wide tournamnets hosted by Special Olympics North Carolina.
Wake County also offers 4 large local competitions. In conjunction with Wake County School System and Raleigh Parks and Recreation we are able to hold competitions in Basketball Skills, Bowling, and Athletics, where we get a majority of the participants through dedicated special education teachers who organize and train their students according to our guidelines. Special Olympics Wake County also offers a Multi-State Swim Meet that is open to Special Olympics Swim Teams from across the southeast .
