Paws to Give Thanks...

Think about what your pet means to you.  He's your companion, your confidant, your best friend.  He asks for so little, yet gives so much in return with the unconditional love that only a pet can give.

It's with these thoughts in mind that the RVSPCA developed the PET (Pets Eat Too) Program in January, 2007.  At that time, the RVSPCA began providing food for the pets of recipients of Meals on Wheels.  It was discovered that some of the homebound seniors were giving a portion of their own food to their pets.  Not a healthy situation for the person or the pet.  Pet food is packaged in 4-cup bags and distributed once a week to those with pets.

In April 2008, the PET Program expanded to include Manna Ministries, operators of a food pantry for the working poor.  As of the end of November, more than 20,000 pounds of pet food has been distributed!  The downturn in the economy has increased the need dramatically and we are facing a need that exceeds 40,000 pounds annually to feed the hungry companion pets in our area. 

We are not only feeding hungry pets...we are helping to keep people and pets united.  Eliminating the need to relinquish a beloved member of the family because there is no extra money for food.
