So the walk-a-thon was a complete success! Over 20 people showed up for the walk and we were able to raise over $400 during the walk from random donations from those who saw us. We want to thank everyone who came out for the walk, you are such a blessing for this great cause. So what next you might ask? The walk-a-thon was but one promotion for the bigger picture which is the fundraising for several wells so please encourage anyone and everyone to continue giving to this online donation page. Walkathon date has been changed to April 29th, 06 at 1pm starting at the Kmart parking lot.
In the beginning we were simply friends. We started meeting every Thursday night expressing our longing to be a part of something greater in this life. For months we shared with each other our weaknesses, prayers, encouragement and dreams of one day uniting the community of Ramona together for a great cause. One night, someone brought the Gift Catalog from World Vision to our group, the fire was ignited and we found our cause! The cause is to give water, the life source of every existing thing, to desperate communities in Africa . We are choosing to support Africa because they are suffering; it’s as simple as that. The root of their problem is water...so we are starting there.
- Diarrhea caused by dirty water and poor nutrition will kill nearly 2 million children this year. * - 60% of the world's hospital beds are occupied by patients with waterborne diseases. - African women and girls spend an average of three hours per day fetching unclean water from rivers and streams that could potentially kill them. We realized in our small community there are roughly 40,000 people. If each person in Ramona donates $3.75 our community alone could ultimately purchase 40 plus wells. Potentially we could save the lives of hundreds of thousands of people who are now dying from the lack of clean safe water. Our mission is to bring the community of Ramona together for a walk-a-thon, in hopes of raising money to dig wells in African communities. Donating through this website is simple, safe and totally secure. 100% of the funds go directly towards building the wells.
