Ofc. Michelle Lawless’ Memorial Ride for Conservation Michelle A. Lawless, Florida Wildlife Officer died in the line of duty October 27, 2007 while preserving and protecting wildlife in the Florida Everglades.
To honor Michelle and all the other law officers killed in the line of duty in Broward county Michelle’s family and friends have organized a motorcycle / automobile ride in her memory.
The proceeds will go to the “Michelle Lawless Memorial Fund”. This fund is established to support the "WILDLIFE FOUNDATION OF FLORIDA, INC" and its many conservation projects throughout the state of Florida. The "Wildlife Foundation of Florida is a nonprofit organization which provides assistance, funding, and promotional support to contribute to the health and well-being of Florida's fish and wildlife resources and their habitats.
Initial proceeds will go to fund the, “Florida Project WILD Schools Program” which is a special partnership with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) to help individual schools develop an ongoing commitment to conservation and environmental education through regular use of Project WILD activities.
The WILD Schools program provides a way for teachers to integrate wildlife conservation themes into the classroom by fostering an awareness, appreciation and responsible action towards Florida’s natural resources.
In memory of Officer Michelle Lawless’ conservation efforts the “Broward Beekeepers Association” will also be present with an “OBSERVATION BEEHIVE” for education/viewing. Families are encouraged to bring the kids and bicycles for a short bicycle ride within Quiet Waters Park and enjoy a natural healthy honey treat from a natural beehive. All proceeds benefit the “Ofc. Lawless Memorial Fund”.
Ride with us as we journey through the Everglades remembering our loved one, Florida Fish and Wildlife Officer Michelle Lawless, and all those in law enforcement who lost their lives in the line of duty.
When: October 11, 2008, Time: ride begins @ 9:00 A.M..
Where: starts & ends at Quiet Waters Park, 401 S. Powerline Rd., Deerfield Beach, FL 33442, Ph: 954-360-131, E-mail: QuietWatersPark@broward.org
Ride route: the ride (by motocycle, automobile/truck) will begin at 9:00AM at Quiet Waters Park and proceed to the Holey lands/Rotenberger W.M.A. turnaround at US-27. The ride will then circle back to Quiet Waters Park where a lunch will be made available for purchase to participants.
All riders are welcome as this is not limited to law enforcement officers, however availability is based on a first come first serve basis due to a permitted number of riders. People are encouraged to particpate by automobile, truck, etc..
Pre-registration: For an online donation here of $35, each participant will receive a T-shirt commemorating the fallen. Register here online by making the minimum donation of $35 and be sure to list your full name(s). One donation per person to receive commemorative T-shirt.
Registration day of event: registration begins at 7:00 AM ($35 per bike or automobile/truck) at Quiet Waters Park in Deerfield Beach, ride begins at 9:00 A.M..
