The Friends of the Winooski River is a volunteer organization based in Central Vermont, whose mission is to reduce pollution in the rivers of the Winooski watershed, and promote wildlife habitat, scenic value, and recreational amenities. It was originally founded in 1992 by the River Network but has operated as an independent nonprofit since 1998. FWR is led by a small group of citizens including anglers and environmental professionals who are concerned about the deteriorating water quality in the Winooski River.
