The Westchester-Putnam Bike Walk Alliance www.westchesterbikewalk.org aims to provide the resources and knowledge to enable communiites to create safe biking and walking routes to local destinations. We also aim to create a network of traffic free multi user trails connecting communites in and around Westchester and Putnam Couties. The WPBWA is currently serving underneath the umbrella of the East Coast Greenway Alliance who is the WPBWA's sponsor. Your donations are fully tax deuctible.
Our 4 primary initiatives for this year are outlined below. Your donations will get our new organization off the ground and help us realize these objectives.
Safe Routes to School
For all 45 towns in Westchester County to identify dangerous walk/bike routes for children, and to submit an application for funding through the federally funded Safe Routes to School program.
Bicycle Friendly Communities
For all45 towns in Westchester County to submit a Bicycle Friendly Community Application to the League of American Bicyclists.
Municipal Leadership Commitment
To have every municipality establish an official bike/walk advisory committee which will encourage citizen input. This committee will promote increased bicycling and walking within towns by creating bike routes, bike parking, maps & signs, traffic calming and other measures which make it safer to bike and walk.
County Leadership Commitment
That Westchester County creates and funds a full time County Bicycle/Pedestrian Coordinator for fiscal 2010. In addition, that we procure the support of all county leaders, and their commitment to achieving WPBWA goals, such as the installation of bike racks on county buses, completing the North & South County Trail, completing the Bronx River Trail, creating a trail along Westchester Avenue and establishing a White Plains bike route.
