  • Lincoln Park Zoo is a world class zoological institution located in Chicago’s historic Lincoln Park district. Founded in 1868, the zoo is rich with architectural treasures as well as award-winning progressively designed animal habitats.
 
  • Lincoln Park Zoo is a not-for-profit institution that attracts an estimated 3 million visitors per year.
 
  • It is one of the nation’s last remaining free admission zoos.
 
  • Lincoln Park Zoo is home one of the country’s largest and most significant zoo-based conservation and science programs. 
 
  • Committed to saving species and ecosystems locally and globally the zoo employs highly specialized experts in veterinary medicine, landscape ecology, cognitive and behavioral research, endocrinology, epidemiology and population biology.
 
  • Lincoln Park Zoo spearheads scientific-based conservation initiatives on site, as well as abroad in remote areas of Argentina, Tanzania and Congo.
 
  • The zoo is a certified “green museum” and is committed to reducing its ecological footprint with a five-year sustainability improvement plan. This initiative is called the Green Scene. To date the zoo has installed several green roofs, solar panels, energy efficient lighting, water conservation measures, as well as numerous recycling measures. The zoo also recently opened an all organic, sustainable and local seasonal café called Café at Wild Things!
 
  • Lincoln Park Zoo recently broke ground on a $12 million ecological restoration endeavor called Nature Boardwalk at Lincoln Park Zoo which will transform and revitalize the South Pond into a natural ecosystem. The pond will be completely surrounded by a boardwalk to provide maximum enjoyment and opportunity for guests to experience nature. Numerous education programs and interpretation opportunities will be provided. Nature Boardwalk is slated to open spring 2010.
