By January 2000, these activists established CARA/Communities Against Rape and Abuse, an organization that prioritizes the wisdom and energy of survivors of sexual and domestic violence and their communities at the grassroots. CARA mobilizes communities to foster support, safety, and self-determination using the power of collective action, critical dialogue, and community organizing.
