The Panhandle Down Syndrome Guild (PDSG) is a parent and self-advocate run volunteer group that works to educate the panhandle of Texas and surounding areas about Down syndrome, advocate for people with Down syndrome, and support the group's members and their families.
The PDSG writes and publishes free new parent guides that provide information, encouragement, and hope to growing families. Along with our stories, medical information, and resource guidance, we also provide a free copy of the book Babies with Down Syndrome, a New Parents Guide. This material is distributed through our family networks, hospitals, and doctors offices.
The PDSG also hosts social gatherings and functions to allow people affected by Down syndrome to network with each other to share knowledge and touch each other's lives. As a part of this effort, we produce and host the local National Down Syndrome Society affilate Buddy Walk in Amarillo Texas each year. This event is a grand party open to the community that also doubles as our primary fund raiser for the year. The Buddy Walk is our most fun of the year, and without it we could not do what we do for the community. We also think its the best walk and family event of the year.
