9th Annual Cause for Paws Event 5K Run, Dog Walk and Festival

9AM until 2PM

Join the fun for our favorite tradition!  The 9th Annual Cause for Paws is a 5K Run/ 1-mile dog walk followed by a family pet friendly festival located in Historic Old Towne Portsmouth.  Food, Live music, activities for the young and old, 2 or 4 legged will be provided. A variety of rescue groups and vendors will be in attendance.  The event kicks off with a 5K run at 9 AM, Peeps and Pups walk begins at 10 AM and the Festival begins. Don’t forget your fun money for a chance to win one of our amazing raffle baskets.  All event proceeds go directly to fund the care of the hundreds of animals in our care.

Competition is fierce behind the scenes as our walkers and runners battle to earn the honorable title of “Top Fundraiser”! Recruit your friends, coworkers, and family to help you earn the top spot.  Do this by asking them to support you to help Portsmouth’s homeless animals by making a donation to your First Giving page. Not a Runner? Is walking not really your thing?  Don’t particularly care for festivals?  Not to worry.  You can raise funds from the comfort of your own home.  Make Facebook updates, snap Instagram photos, TWEET clever messages to your followers, Snap Chat away---directing all of your people to your First Giving page to make donations.

Swell prizes will be awarded to the top fundraisers, and the individual with the highest total by the day of the festival will earn a prestigious spot on an engraved plaque hanging in the halls of PHS!

The Portsmouth Humane Society is a non-profit Virginia corporation. We depend upon charitable contributions to accomplish our work and on volunteer support to augment a very small paid staff. We were founded in 1889 and believe that we are the oldest continuously operating animal welfare organization in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

The mission of PHS is dedicated to caring for homeless animals in the community by promoting their adoptions into loving, permanent homes. We also provide education and community outreach programs to help decrease the pet overpopulation problem.
