What is Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)?

  • ASD is the common term for a range of disabilities that can cause significant social, communication and behavorial changes. This is a life-long, developmental disability which affects the way the brain regulates what a person sees, hears and experiences. As a result, the individual with ASD often has difficulty with communication, learning, and processing both sensory and social information. These abilities exist on a continuum and vary widely in both intensity and scope from person to person.
