Registration for the 7th annual Decatur Morgan Hospital Foundation Dragon Boat Race and Festival, presented by Toray Carbon Fibers, is officially open. The event will be Saturday, May 12, 2018, at Point Mallard Aquatic Center Beach. Proceeds from this are going to purchase new medical equipment for Decatur Morgan Hospital. Top prizes will be awarded, but the real winners will be the healthcare services provided at Decatur Morgan Hospital.
Last year’s Decatur dragon boat races had more than 70 teams and 1,700 paddlers participate. Teams of 20 paddlers, a drummer and steersperson race in authentic 46-foot long Asian dragon boats. All skill levels and physiques can participate, making it the ultimate team building sport, requiring synchronicity and finesse, more than power to win. The Decatur Morgan Hospital Foundation Dragon Boat Festival features competitive community and corporate teams racing for title of Grand Champion. Off the water, teams also compete to raise the most pledges for Decatur Morgan Hospital Foundation.
Each team will get an on-water practice session with a trained coach the week prior to race day and compete in at least two heats on Saturday, May 12, 2018. Team registration fee is $1,500.
