IVY JOY HUSTLES FOR HEALTH
On Saturday, May 6 hundreds of participants will run, walk and roll across the finish line of the Superhero Hustle - many with capes flowing behind them. These proud finishers will include 10-year-old Ivy Joy and her Hustle for Health teammates.
As part of this unique community based therapy group, Ivy has been training weekly with a coaching team of therapists who are readying the participants to run all 3.1 miles of the Run for the Kids 5K.
Ivy began physical therapy when she was just 6-months-old as a result of a stroke in utero. Since then, she has made incredible progress. She continues to work toward her therapy goals through community based programs - Hustle for Health and Climbing & Bouldering.
She was motivated to join Hustle for Health in an effort to improve her "monster laps" in PE class at school. Like her teammates, Ivy is building strength, endurance and confidence, but is also working toward a more symmetrical running pattern.
Ivy describes her coaches and teammates as "total goofballs" who have assigned her the superhero identity and nickname of "The Warrior." Joining her on May 6 are "Feel the Burn" Bernardo, "Pokemon Master" Ethan and "Fast Luke."
In anticipation of crossing the finish line, Ivy expects she will feel "in the middle of nervous and excited" - emotions likely shared with every superhero on the verge of accomplishing a great feat.
Join us for this family-friendly 5K Run/2 Mile Walk on Saturday, May 6.
