Cambridge Rindge & Latin School Crew
Home on the Charles
From 1889 until the stock market crash of 1929, the Cambridge Latin High School Crew Team raced in 4's against rivals Rindge Technical School and Brown & Nichols. The program resurfaced in 1989 as the Cambridge Rindge & Latin School Crew Club. Managed and coached by CRLS teachers, the club was supported by parent dues. Students rowed several days a week in the fall with the Community Rowing Center in Boston. When the Cambridge Boat Club remodeled in 1999, space was created for CRLS and in the Spring of 2000 the CRLS Crew Team was Home on the Charles. We are a competitive elite youth rowing program, receiving coach salaries and some operating expenses from the City. Your financial assistance is greatly appreciated.
Throughout the years the student-athletes of CRLS Rowing have thrived. Their continued development of basic rowing skills, appropriate attitudes of focus and commitment, adherence to the values of good sportsmanship and team ethics necessary for competition have laid the groundwork for success.
CRLS Crew has a strong commitment to diversity and the team welcomes new recruits each season. No previous rowing experience is required to join the crew, which has allowed a wide range of students from the CRLS student body to participate and share the experience of rowing and the many benefits of being a member of a team.
While the Cambridge Boat Club provides us a home and the City of Cambridge provides us transport, we are a self-funding program. There are no fees charged to participate, and the coaches, athletes, and parents work together each year on fundraisers which are crucial to keeping our student-athletes on the water, rowing and competing together.
From our first official season as the CRLS Crew rowing under our own name and colors - at the time a part-time, non-racing program with little or no rowing experience let alone equipment - the program has evolved into a girls and boys program that competes at local, state and regional level championships.
