Carolina Traveler: Miracle League of the Triangle

For an individual with special needs, playing baseball with other boys and girls is a dream come true. Help us make that dream a reality.

Co-founders Robin Rose and Tony Withers saw the idea on HBO in 2004. Less than two years later, they had enough community support to raise nearly $1 million and construct a baseball field in Cary, NC. In 2014, after reaching capacity at the Cary field, we raised over $1.7 million to construct a second field.  Our goal is to complete the triangle and construct a field in Durham.  In partnership with The Durham Bulls and Capitol Broadcasting Company, we are looking to raise at least $2.5 Million to build the Durham Miracle Athletic Park.

The Miracle League Field is a 14,000 square foot baseball/athletic field designed with a flat, latex-free, synthetic sport surface that is barrier-free, allowing individuals using wheelchairs, walkers, and other assistive devices to move around the field freely.  The field will be complete with “dugouts” large enough to accommodate wheelchairs.  The facility will also include handicapped accessible restrooms and a video board to enhance the experience and build the self-esteem of the children in the program.

Help make thousands of DREAMS come true

Simply put, there are no similar facilities to meet the needs of families in all of Durham, Orange and Granville counties. More than 10,000 children with special needs live within a 15-minute drive of the Durham location — an even greater player pool than our successful facility in North Raleigh. We anticipate creating teams for 125 players in our first year of operation. And, as has consistently been the case at our other facilities, growing strong from there. This will bring our total player capacity to more than 1,000, and create thousands of new volunteer opportunities.

“The Miracle League of the Triangle is much more than just baseball. It has given our son a chance to be a part of a team where he is accepted for who he is. We leave every game with a renewed sense of faith in humanity.” – Miracle League Parent

We’ve already got some HEAVY HITTERS on our side

Capitol Broadcasting Company and the Durham Bulls are the founding sponsors for this new facility. We’re honored by their faith in our efforts, and their commitment to our carefully planned and much-needed expansion. It’s an expansion we’re starting from a position of financial strength. We consistently generate a positive cash flow and hold no debt. As a result, we’re able to offer program participation at a nominal fee, and provide scholarships for almost a quarter of our families.
