Sjogren's Syndrome Foundation - Overview

Thank you for joining with the Sjögren's Syndrome Foundation in recognizing World Sjögren's Day.

While World Sjögren's Day commemorates the birthday of Henrik Sjögren, a Swedish ophthalmologist who first identified the disease in 1933, it is more importantly a way to help raise awareness for Sjögren's. It is meant to put a face on the millions of people who live with this disease or suffer from symptoms and have yet to be diagnosed. It gives everyone touched by Sjögren's a vehicle to reach out and educate those close to them - family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, etc. - about the disease. It is the ideal opportunity for you to have your voice heard and to spread awareness about this life-altering disease.

World Sjögren's Day is also a valuable way to raise funds that will further Sjögren's research efforts and in turn, help transform the future of Sjögren's! While the Sjögren's Syndrome Foundation has made great strides since it was founded in 1983, the past few years have seen incredible change in how Sjögren's is treated, the development of a possible therapeutic specifically for Sjögren's and the wealth of information and resources available for patients.

Leading up to World Sjögren's Day and especially on the day itself, talk about Sjögren’s with the people in your life. By sharing your story and educating others, you are helping spread the message that Sjögren's is a serious disease that deserves to be recognized. You may also be helping someone who is looking for answers to their problems.

We also encourage you to make a donation today to help further Sjögren's research and awareness. You can donate in honor of Dr. Sjögren, yourself, a loved one, or in honor of the nearly 4 million Americans who fight this disease each day. Create a page to share with your family and friends and encourage them to make a donation as well. Each and every donation will greatly impact the efforts of the SSF.

To assist you with your efforts, you can download a fact sheet and use it to educate those around you. Please let us know if there is anything else that we can do to assist you with your own personal fundraising or awareness efforts.

Thank you for your support.

Together we can make a difference!
