40 and Fabulous

A Celebration of 40 Years of Helping Homeless Animals

The West Milford Animal Shelter Society (WMASS) recently turned 40. Like fine wine, it keeps getting better with age. Help the WMASS celebrate with a birthday gift that will enable it to continue providing top-quality care to the homeless animals in your community.

Born in 1976, the WMASS worked alongside the township-employed animal control officers and assisted with the operation of the shelter. In 1994, the WMASS struck out on its own, entering into a contract with the township for complete and full authority to operate the animal shelter facility on a strictly volunteer basis.

Since then, the WMASS has become known as a top-notch shelter. The ASPCA has featured the WMASS in its national Animal Watch Magazine and has called it a "Must-See Shelter" (only one other New Jersey shelter has received this distinction).

Over the years, the WMASS has expanded to the state-of-the-art facility it is now. With the help of your generous donations, the WMASS now includes larger, safer, and more private kennels; a “living room” for facilitating dog adoptions; a larger, sunnier cat adoption room; three cage-free catteries where cats can roam freely (including a fenced-in outdoor area in two); and additional outdoor play areas for dogs. These improvements make for happier, less-stressed shelter residents.

It’s no wonder that the WMASS, which takes in hundreds of animals each year, has an adoption rate of over 80% - a superior rate compared to the national average for municipal facilities, which is under 40%.

Please help the WMASS continue to serve the township’s homeless animals for another 40 years by sending your tax-deductible donation today. Keep in mind that the WMASS is operated entirely by volunteers, so all donations go directly to the care of the animals. Thank you for your generosity.
