Hi Everyone- Those of you that know me, know that Type 1 Diabetes affects not only my wife and I, but also my daughter Ellie. This disease is a twenty four hour a day battle . We don't get a break from it whether as a person living with it or as a parent or caregiver of a child with T1D. The programs we run on a year round basis at the Barton Center help families learn to deal with T1D and help the kids accept the disease and move forward with their lives and not let it get in the way of their goals. Please feel free to share this page with family and friends.....
As many of you know November is Diabetes Awareness Month. We hope you will join us in providing a “home away from home” for children with Type 1 Diabetes. The mission of The Barton Center for Diabetes Education, Inc., is to improve the lives of children with insulin dependent diabetes through education, recreation and support programs which inspire and empower. Our programs include Clara Barton Camp, Camp Joslin, Barton Day Camps, Adventure Camp, Family Camp and a wide array of year-round educational and recreational programs for children, families, and extended-family caregivers. All Barton programs promote proper diabetes management and health enhancement strategies and participants attend from across the country as well as international locations.
Our programs provide participants with a combination of camping, fun, diabetes education, support and recreation in a non-clinical environment where they do not feel isolated and different due to the fact they have diabetes. Campers experience a wide variety of fun activities and ongoing support from friends and staff (many whom have diabetes themselves).
Many of our participants would not be able to attend without the generous support of our campership program. This past year, enrollment was significantly high resulting in more campership funds awarded. With year-round programs still to take place, we need your help in providing campership funding for many children. Please join us in “making dreams come true” for children with Type 1 Diabetes! Every dollar counts – no donation is too small.
Thanks so much,
