Relay runner for MS Run The US 2014
Grand Rapids, Michigan
The MS Run the US 2014 Relay is a 3,000 mile race across America to raise awareness and funds to find a cure for multiple sclerosis (MS)! The Relay begins on April 13th, 2014 in Los Angeles, CA and will be completed in New York, New York on August 10th, 2014.
Sixteen runners have been selected to run an average of 170 miles over six consecutive days during their individual relay segments. Each runner dedicates a week of running on the road with the Relay, and, collectively, the Relay will complete 3,000 miles over the course of four months.
My Running Story:
I signed up for my first marathon about four years ago. As I trained, I discovered the freedom and adventure that encompasses the sport. From then on, my life was never the same. I found every excuse to run, ultimately leading me to my first charitable race- an Ironman- during the summer of 2013. The feeling of being able to do what I love for the betterment of others, and seeing the difference it makes was unlike anything I had experienced before. I had previously heard of MS Run the US, and, after raising donations and crossing the finish line at the Ironman, knew without a doubt that I had to pursue a position in the Relay.
As a student at Grand Valley State University, I spend a lot of my non-running time pursuing a degree in business. The scholarly life doesn't have many breaks, but when it does, I spend my free time pursuing outdoor/adventure sports. I love to rock climb, mountain bike, and slackline. I enjoy hiking the Sleeping Bear Dunes in northern Michigan. I take a camera with me whenever I am outside or doing a sport; I'm all about capturing the moment. I am a self-taught acoustic guitar player and coffee afficionado, and mix the two frequently. My iPod contains every genre of music imaginable, but, if you ask me to sing any of it, you will have to use lots of imagination to think that I am any good. I put blueberries in every food possible, I wear mis-matched race-promo socks regularily, and I think that hammocks are the most comfortable things ever as long as I don't fall out.
