Runner Story:

In the late winter/spring of 2009 I started running when a friend asked me to do a half marathon.  I haven't stopped.  I was active prior to that and belonged to a gym but never ran more than 20 or 30 minutes at a time on a treadmill.  Oh, what a journey it has been.  Since then I have run at Red Rocks, the Grand Canyon, along the Pacific Coast, Boston and many other amazing places.  Running and being active in general, has become such an integral part of my life.  It has become so much more than just running.  I have grown in the past six years in ways I didn't even know were possible or could have expected.  This transformation has helped me find answers, clear my head when it's cloudy and, in a sense, has saved me from many things, including myself.

Running has done so much for me and I believe I need to give back so others can benefit as well.  I was only eight years old when my Mom was diagnosed with MS.  She was a young mother of four children and I remember we went to a support group as a family.  Most of the people in the room were in wheel chairs.  We were all scared!  One of my most fond memories of my Mom was when she used to play kickball in the cul-de-sac with all of us and the neighbor kids.  She was so full of energy and still is.  One of my other memories was when she would suffer attacks from MS and not be able to get out of bed; sometimes for weeks at a time.  She is one determined woman and refuses to let MS keep her down.  She walks three miles every day and I believe I have gotten the determination I have because of her example.  If my Mom, who has MS, can walk approximately 40,500 miles over the past 37 years, I can surely run a measly 176 miles in seven days!

Mom has often said to me in the past several years that she wishes she could run a marathon.  MS stole that wish from her!  I often tell her that her marathon is that walk she takes every day!  When I complete the relay she will be there.  We will cross together, hand in hand - running!

I am inviting you to join me in raising awareness and helping to find a cure for MS.  I am doing this because I CAN!  I am doing this for the countless people that suffer from this terrible disease that can't.  I am doing this so that we can raise awareness and eradicate this terrible disease.  I am doing this so that no other little boy or girl has to be scared hearing that their Mom or Dad has MS!

I am honored to be a part of the 2016 relay across America to raise awareness and money for MS!  I am asking for your support in two ways. First, I have set a goal to raise $40,000 by the time my segment starts in June.  Your donation will contribute to the fight against MS.  Secondly, by being informed, you can help raise awareness in our search for a cure. To learn more about MS go to:

Many thanks for your support!  If your company does matching make sure to take advantage of that as well.  It is easy and fast to do.  Please also forward this on to others to not only raise money, but more importantly to raise awareness of MS!

**This just in... My Mom continues to inspire.  To help raise awareness she has joined the cast for the 2016 Dubuque Chamber of Commerce Dancing with the Stars and has selected MS Run the US as her charity!  Be on the lookout for exciting things on this great event!
