Runner's Story:

I run because it is a great way that I can raise funds for MS research and motivate my friends with MS to keep workingout and to keep fighting back!

I first became aware of MS in 2011 when I met Dan Erschen at my local gym, WestWood.  Dan has MS and is a three-time Ironman Wisconsin competitor.  Dan took me under his wing, taught me how to bike, and encouraged me to compete in local triathlons.  By the fall of 2011 he convinced me to sign up with him for the 2012 Ironman Wisconsin triathlon.

In the early spring of 2012 Dan asked me for a little help with an indoor triathlon that WestWood was hosting in which a couple people with MS were participating.  I was amazed and motivated to see a few brave souls participate in the event.  They pushed through pain, frustration, and fear.  I was hooked and have volunteered in the event every year since.

The progress that the triathletes with MS have showed after training for many weeks to prepare for the triathlon was incredible.  Shortly after the 2013 indoor triathlon, Dan built a small gym in an empty room at his business and opened it up to people with MS who want to learn how to beat back MS (as Dan has) with physical exercise and proper nutrition.  Since the gym opened, I have volunteered twice a week to help these “MS Gym Rats” get stronger through exercise and proper nutrition.  I have made so many friends along the way and have seen many of the MS Gym Rats improve and beat back their MS symptoms.

I have also participated in the 2012, 2013, and 2014 Bike MS Best Dam Bike Ride by riding for Dan’s team Peppy Pedalers.  This year was especially cool because my team had many people with MS actually ride the course.  In fact, I rode 100 miles over two days on a tandem with one of the MS Gym Rats, John Haupt!  John’s typical day is spent in a wheelchair.  However, since coming to Dan’s gym he has been getting stronger and beating back MS.  He is now a cyclist!

Please assist me in helping my MS Gym Rat friends and everyone else suffering from MS by sponsoring my run!  Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts.

Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
