Relay Runner for the MS Run the US - 2014 Relay

What: The MS Run the US 2014 Relay is a 3,000 mile race across America to raise awareness and funds to find a cure for multiple sclerosis (MS)! The Relay begins on April 13th, 2014 in Los Angeles, CA and will be completed in New York, New York on August 17th, 2014.

Sixteen runners have been selected to run an average of 170 miles over six consecutive days during their individual relay segments. Each runner dedicates a week of running on the road with the Relay, and, collectively, the Relay will complete 3,000 miles over the course of four months.

I am a nurse in the operating room. I get to see inside the human body everyday I work and truly feel blessed for that opportunity. I have a husband who loves me despite my craziness and two wonderful children, Nick (14) and Josie (11). I love to travel but my favorite place in the world to go is Disneyworld. My first trip to Disneyworld was when I was a senior in high school. I still remember the feeling of  walking down Main Street for the first time and seeing Cinderella's Castle. Even after several trips I still get the same giddy feeling when I step onto Main Street. I firmly believe that a girl can never own too many tutus or tiaras, no matter how old you are!

My Running Story:

I ran my first half marathon in 2012 because my husband promised to take me to Disneyworld to run in a RunDisney race if I did. I didn't really enjoy running at that time. I didn't consider myself a "real" runner. I would run by myself and always keep my head down so that I could avoid any kind of contact with any "real" runners. I ran off and on over the next several months but never really fell in love with it. In January 2013, I had the opportunity to participate in a 24-hour treadmill challenge to raise money for the MS Run the US relay. That is the night I found my passion for running and the running community! I have since completed four halves, three marathons and a 50K. This summer I had the opportunity to become active with the MS relay and got to know Ashley Kumlien, founder of MS Run the US. Throughout the summer I met so many people who lived with MS or had a family member affected by it. It was eye opening to realize that as a healthcare provider I knew so little about the disease. The more I learned the more I knew I wanted to do something to help find a cure for MS.

Going the distance to find a cure!
