Runner Story: Running has always been an outlet to help me handle every obstacle in life, good or bad. In October 2009, I ran my very first marathon. It was something that I trained for, for many months. As an avid runner, it was my next big accomplishment. Then in February 2010, I was diagnosed with MS. Within 5 months, I went from feeling the strongest I had been in my life to the weakest. My hopes and dreams seemed uncertain as I did not know if I would ever be myself again. I felt running was no longer an option which left me heartbroken. After almost a year of multiple treatments and therapy, I slowly started to heal physically. I knew running again would be a challenge, but a necessary part of mending emotionally. So I laced up my shoes and have not looked back. I think of myself as a runner who has MS, and not someone who has MS that just runs. When I spoke with my family of this venture I thought they would tell me I “was crazy” and I “wasn't really thinking” about running 7 marathons in 7 consecutive days, instead I heard things like “what a great cause” “we will support you” “everything happens for a reason.” I truly believe wholeheartedly everything they said. Together with your help, I know one day we can make MS mean Multiple Solutions.
