Announcing the first- (and perhaps last-) ever, three-person, Gay Alliance California-Satellite Ride 4 Pride! The Gay Alliance has gone national—so why shouldn’t Ride 4 Pride?

Yes, the tiny LGBTQ Academy of the Gay Alliance—basically my sister and her colleague—have expanded their excellent work beyond New York, impacting hearts and minds all over the country, helping to make schools and workplaces more inclusive of and effective for their LGBTQ students, employees, and clients. To date, the LGBTQ Academy has trained professionals in over 350 organizations in 17 states, including faculty and staff at 10 California Community Colleges (including LA Pierce) and Ventura County Behavioral Health. Incredible.

But the Gay Alliance needs funding to continue this important work, and Ride 4 Pride donations have become a critical source of support. My California co-riders, Noah and Shimona, and I can’t get to Rochester for this year’s Ride 4 Pride, but we wanted to do our part. So on June 17, the same day our 70 New York counterparts will ride the “real” Ride 4 Pride, the three of us will be biking our lonely 50 miles around Lompoc, CA.

OK, most of you know 50 miles isn’t really a challenge for me under normal circumstances. So to really earn your support, I plan to do the whole ride California-style: on a one-speed beach cruiser! (Now I just need to find one. Let me know if you have one I can borrow…)

Please help the LGBTQ Academy at the Gay Alliance make schools and workplaces across the country safer and more respectful for LGBTQ persons. Click on the green “Donate” button above and follow the instructions. All of the funds we raise (minus the small % that FirstGiving takes for us to use their fundraising site, which you have the option of paying) will go directly to the Gay Alliance. Any amount is greatly appreciated and helpful. I thank you so very much! – Julie

UPDATE: A big shoutout to Bikeguy Bicycles, Chatsworth, CA, for their generous donation of parts and labor to make my sweet new beach cruiser even sweeter! (See it in my Profile image.)
