Planning is in the works for the 3rd Annual Greater Kansas City Myasthenia Gravis Walk, Run and Roll to be held at Heritage Park on April 6, 2013. Since its inception 2 years ago, $45,000 has been raised for the Myasthenia Gravis Association of Kansas City through the MGA Walk, Run and Roll!
Myasthenia Gravis (MG) is an autoimmune, neuromuscular disease characterized by fluctuating muscle weakness, double and blurred vision, difficulty swallowing and breathing. It is a potentially fatal disease without a cure; however with early diagnosis and proper treatment, the disease can be controlled. MG affects an estimated 1 out of 5,000 people.
The purpose of the Walk is to increase awareness of MG and to raise funds to support the programs and activities of the Myasthenia Gravis Association that serves those living with MGA in Kansas and Missouri. The funds raised over the past 2 years have helped provide outreach to Kansas and Missouri hospital social work departments and hospitalists, fund support groups for those living with MG in the Kansas City metro area, provided packets to those newly diagnosed with MG, and distributed “Planning for MG Medical Emergencies” information.
We thank you for your continued support, as we pay tribute to you and your company while we help to make Kansas City an even better place for people who are living with Myasthenia Gravis.
